Were you ever put to sleep by parents using melatonin or benadryl?

To keep it short, when i was a kid, if my parents were tired, they would slip me a melatonin or benadryl in water or juice. Just wondering how common was this back in the days, 20+ years ago, and how often?

Definitely no. I remember how my grandmother used to accuse my aunt (uncle's wife not our immediate family) of doing that and looked down on her. I have no idea if it was true or based on anything but the fact is that in our family, there was a belief that stuff like this could damage a child's brain so I doubt anybody in our family had done that.

On the other hand, we were drinking black tea from the early age as the staple drink every day and I wonder if this wasn't the reason I developed anxiety. 😬

@CrazyMusicLover the tea would tend to do the opposite. I understand thst in sone european cultures, crushed poppies were used.

@samueltyler2 whats that
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Alexa98 I have no idea what's the effect of those substances but the belief might be rooted in the older methods when the poppy heads brew was used and that definitely caused delayed development in kids. However, that's different because that's an opiate and there was no way to guess the dosage.

@CrazyMusicLover i know of at least one child who needed resuscitation after a year dise of poppies.

@samueltyler2 Black tea contains caffeine and caffein is a stimulant that increases anxiety. But I had other reasons to develop anxiety as well. I only assume this because when I stop drinking black tea now, I feel a bit calmer.

@CrazyMusicLover my pont exactly, btw, so does chocolate!

@samueltyler2 Yup, black tea and dark cocoa powder are a terrible combination. For the nervous system and for digestion. It even triggers migrains for my brother. I mean, especially dark/milk chocolate on empty stomach.

@CrazyMusicLover we have treated many pets fir overdoses of chocolate. One small poodle suffered convulsions.
