My brother and I talked this evening

He says that he's been talking to our uncle (mom's brother) since Mom died. Our mom and uncle had been estranged for years before she died this year (lots of bad blood between all of us in the past). So my brother reached out to tell our uncle the news of her death, and that has lead to my brother and uncle trying to form a friendship again. The uncle and his wife took my brother to dinner for his birthday two days ago, which is a really nice sign. He told me our uncle asked about me too, and that has me thinking about trying to get in touch with him myself. 🤔

He used to be my favorite uncle when I was a kid and teen, and I really have missed him.

That's really good news. I'm happy for your brother and uncle.

I bet your uncle would love to hear from you too. He'd probably be thrilled to learn he was your favorite uncle while growing up, if he doesn't already know.

Somewhere loyalty plays a role in carrying forward relationships.
What was the reason for the bad blood? Was it that your unclw was being unscrupulous and had eyes on some ancestral property which your mom wanted to protect for your future. Just an example. Can be many other reasons.
You need to respect your moms judgement. No need to be a blind follower. But i feel you should be more pragmatic than the favorite childhood uncle reason.

He can be again. Don't postpone it.
My wife Margaret did not get along with a younger sister: I have no idea why. But her sister joined a Zoom broadcast of the funeral service, at least for awhile.

That's fantastic news! I would pursue family relationships if at all possible.

Praying for you and your family.
You should, you care for him, life is too short

Life is too short to hold grudges.

Before you do that, you need to figure out what all the bad blood was about. If it had nothing to do with you personally, then there shouldn't be any issue with you making contact with him and picking up where you two left off years ago.
Great!

Bury the hatchett!

All we benefit.
