The Moment You Realize Family Is All You Truly Have

A few days ago, I saw something that has stayed with me.

He was standing there, silent and lost, in front of his mother’s mortal remains. People — colleagues, friends, and well-wishers .... kept coming to offer their final respects.

He’s someone I know well, an associate and a relative. A man of great respect and stature, heading a large organization that’s now reaching across the globe. Everyone looks up to him.

But that day, I saw a different side of him. Not the strong, confident leader .... just a son, standing quietly, with sadness written all over his face.

He had lost his brother just two weeks earlier. His father and one sister had passed away long ago. And now his mother too. He isn’t married. For the first time, I think he felt truly alone .... the last of his family.

No amount of success or admiration can fill that emptiness.

He stood in silence as his mother was laid on the funeral pyre. As the fire rose, it must have felt like an entire era of his life had come to an end.

There was nothing I could do either… except stand there with him ..... and pray.
