Why shouldn't you covet your neighbor's house, his wife, his ox or his donkey ?

Because people who do that are never satisfied and are always miserable. Can’t enjoy life or love living that way. And it can lead to some very evil things when a person dwells on what others have instead of being grateful for what they got.
