I wonder if you have a clogged drain or vent line going to the roof
might be suctioning out water from the p-trap under the sink and making a straight line to the sewer..
whenever the smell happens try running the trip to fill up the p-trap under the sink with water and see if it goes away

@Pretzel we have tried so many things! Vinegar and baking soda, Draino, garbage disposal cleaner tablets, lemons and ice, etc. We called the maintenance guys (we rent this house) and they said there's nothing they can do because this house was built with cast iron pipes and "they just have that smell". 🙄
