What I tend to think of after working with a couple of Iranian refugees were hired by a company I worked at. Getting to know them and telling me their stories. And this holds more true in many middle East areas.
Americans don't live under the barrage of daily rebel gunfire and fighting or experience fighter jets missiles cannon shells flying over head. Kids aren't being kids riding their bikes down the town streets delivering the latest news paper with this going on and excepting it as just another day.
Edit: I failed to mention this was during the hostage crisis era.
