Not all mothers are moms

With Mother's Day approaching I am reminded what a difficult holiday this has always been for me. Not for the reasons you may think. Not because I lost my mom. Nope, she is still very much alive. But because of the strained relationship we have had most all my life.
It's so incredibly hard, and weird, to stand in the card section and try to pick out a card for someone who doesn’t fit into any of the descriptions that are written about in those cards.

Mother's Day is very hard on my kids. Their mother walked out on us almost 2 years ago and hasn't tried to call or text them since she left. They miss her and I have to deal with their pain and questions. Thankfully we're going to my partners grandmas house to celebrate and they will have a great time there. But I know it will still be hard for them.
