Actual conversation with my father that just happened

Me: “My pepper plants hadn’t produced yet and so the deer ate them it’s a shame.”

Him: “I don’t know why you spend so much time worrying about those plants”

Me: “I like watching things grow and eating my own food”

Him: “You can just buy peppers cheap”

Me: “Not everything is about money”

Him: “I know that! But you’re doing all this work to try and save $10 a year??”

Like…it sounds like you actually don’t know that. Why do I even bother talking 🤣🤣

I joke but he does actually value money above anything else even his family

"... he does actually value money above anything else even his family"

Is this an assumption or has he told you this?

Many men view providing for their family as a demonstration of their affection. The more work, effort, time, etc they give up to make the money their family needs, the more deeply they care. People don't say "I love you" the same way and sometimes it can be hard to understand if you don't look closely. Something to think about🤷‍♀

@SlaveEt Yea it is a rough deal I guess. Not sure though. He’s always been awful and cruel, my mother was physically abusive

I didn’t grow up with any siblings in my life really so I don’t really know what “family” feels like

I know there’s some huge part of life I missed out on with them but at the same time I don’t know what I’m missing

Not all are blessed with a good first family but happily, as we grow older and wiser, we get to build our own chosen family. I hope you find/have found those worth building such relationships with.
My father would’ve been right there with you. At 92, he still grows fruits and veggies. Every time I visit, I come home with a bag of produce. 😊🍅🫛🥬🍓🫐🍎🍋🍒🥕🌶

Jeeze! Gardening is quite a common hobby. It's healthy. How can you knock that, what a dick 😂

My dad can be pretty judgemental too but never about gardening, he grows all kinds a things
PalteseMalconFunch · 36-40, T
@Notsimilarreally people that don’t have hobbies are always miserable
Miram · 31-35, F
I think it wasn't the deer who ate them. It was your dad. Can't tolerate competing against a potted plant.
PalteseMalconFunch · 36-40, T
@Miram I’m imagining him out the grumbling to himself eating them 🤣

I understand you’re not doing it to save the money
PalteseMalconFunch · 36-40, T
@Jonjdw Right? Like it’s really not that hard.

I’ve actually thought about this. He doesn’t have any hobbies. He hates everything. Literally all he has in his life is his money.

It’s such a miserable existence but he won’t change. I almost feel bad.

We're to reeducate the world because the previous generation really got things confused
PalteseMalconFunch · 36-40, T
@being Yea we gotta do better moving forward

@CountScrofula Yea I know that’s an option. I also have a deck that the deer don’t go on so I moved the plants there

It just doesn’t get enough sun. But once they start producing peppers I’ll move them back out

@PalteseMalconFunch Deer repellent is fuckin' hard. Some of them like spicy. There are deer EVERYWHERE here so anti-deer measures in gardens is an endless war of good vs cute.
