That the USA still burnt coal in 2024 as a source of heat.

Almost the entire male population of Pennsylvania are employed in coal mines, though most of them have no more than a grade 3 education either. The reason that region in the USA still uses coal is because there are huge stretches of the USA which are not served by Natural Gas and therefore only have propane and furnace oil as heating alternatives.

The coal in question is not used in homes like it still is used in parts of Scotland UK, but is instead used to heat factories or to provide a source of heating energy to produce steam that is used in factories.

@swirlie Yea, thinking about it I do seem to recollect the importance of coal to Pennsylvania in a TV documentary.
It was quite significant.
