Were your parents affectionate with each other around you and your siblings?

I don't remember my parents holding hands or kissing, not even on the cheek, not even as little as pet names. They never went out unless it was shopping, funerals or family gatherings.

Nope. As my father said upon asking for a divorce after my sister and I left for college, “I feel like I’ve had to raise three children.”

@OlderSometimesWiser oof. Dad was the sort to speak his mind no matter who or what yeah...?
@TheOthetAcc Nope, in fact quite the opposite. He quietly “did his duty” until my sister and I were out of the house then figured it was his turn to have the life he wanted. I have mixed feelings about that. He deserved that life but it was hard not to feel like the burden who held him back for so many years.

@OlderSometimesWiser How was your relationship with him after the divorce?
@TheOthetAcc Not great. He was the most decent, honest man I’ve ever known but communication-wise he was very closed off so it made our relationship challenging. Always wished him the best- just hard to break through his walls.
