Can't think of nothing

Cars have gotten worse made since 1984

Taxes and inflation has never gone down. When I was a kid. Gasoline was under 40 cents a gallon

Car and trucks made years before you could be more independent with. Like make your own fuels for. Today's cars you can't for one thing

@Nimbus

And that just the tip of the iceberg

@HumanEarth @Nimbus You mean Detroit planned obsolescent cars have not gotten better? Since the Japanese showed the world how quality control could improve production and the longevity of vehicles, most other vehicles have improved dramatically. My 12 year old Prius just needed a repair and it was still covered under warranty. Try to find a Detroit-made behemoth that is still running after 12 years, let alone still under warranty.

If you mean you can't fix them with a screwdriver and a wrench yourself, it is a tradeoff for not needing repairs as often.

If you lived in the 70's -- probably unlikely you were old enough to have paid attention if you were -- there was real inflation and yes it did come down. And taxes are much lower (which is why the schools and infrastructure has gone to hell with the tax revolt and Starve The Beast fiascos).

Price of gasoline is rightly up. It is not a renewable source, and with scarcity the basic oil price goes up. Factor in the increased gasoline taxes to replace other lost tax resources for the roads, the cost of additional refining standards to reduce smog the vehicles produce, and the fact that U.S. gasoline prices were always far below the real costs in other countries, thanks to federal tax loopholes.
