@Jenny1234 I can't say from direct experience of course but I think that some time it's a question of attitude and expectation.
Our first was born without any complications beyond an incompetent, overworked, and lazy midwife. My wife therefore had no reason to think that the second would be a problem so she decided to enjoy it. It also helped that the second and third babies were born in a much better maternity unit with extremely competent midwives who, like waiters in a good restaurant, were there when needed, capable of giving useful advice, cleaning up various messes along the way, yet otherwise staying out of the way.
They didn't chatter or give orders, just did what was necessary and left my wife to get on with it as she liked which was on all fours making quite a lot of noise, not quietly on her back.
Going by the bruises on my hands I daresay it was quite painful occasionally.
