Expanding my family

I’m considering either being an adoptive parent, or mentor parent (where I’d bring a child in a residential setting home for the weekend until they find their forever family). What are your ideas on both? I’ve been a mentor to children in foster care for a few years and I know I want to continue to support them in the future while giving them a safe loving stable environment.

Thats so kind and caring. Genuine respect to you. I had a few mates in the care system. A couple had some terrible experiences in care homes. People like you make the lives of these kids future more prosperous. Brilliant 👏

@Perry1968 thank you! I was a mentor to two sisters and I just adore them. They’re really amazing people and I wanna be there for others too. I remember how hard it is growing up being a teen. I had a family and still felt alone and needed more people so it definitely takes a village and I want to be part of it.

Do you think I should start as an adoptive parent or start as a mentor parent where I’d have a child with challenging needs for just the weekend?

What are your ideas? I’m feeling a little confused which route I should go.

@Fifidog I can only say with sincerity that its a decision you have to make. Either is good id say when you're as empathic and as kind as you are. And i applaud you at your age to think with such a caring heart. Many children will forever remember you and that in itself is as rewarding as it can get. Beautifully kind.

Somebody has to do stuff like that.

@Jonjdw that’s true that’s why I’m here haha Do you think I should start as an adoptive parent or start as a mentor parent where I’d have a child with challenging needs for just the weekend?
