What’s something traumatizing that your Mom said to you as a child that you still remember?

I used to hate to go to bed and would stand next to the bed but refused to get in it, so my mom would tell me that there were monsters under my bed that would grab my ankles and drag me under the bed and kill me. To this day, when I stand next to my bed, for a second or two I wonder if there’s a monster underneath.

Well, when I was very young I accidentally stumbled on a porn site. I was so young that the naked lady on the landing page was a little scary. I told my dad and he said ‘you’ll go to prison for going on those sites, but because I’m your dad I’ll go to prison’. I was too young to really understand the concept of legal or illegal, what prison was like or what could be on the porn site past a naked lady. It gave me this really horrible feeling around the area of liking girls and building my knowledge on the area of sex on the false premise that porn was illegal really messed me up.

@pianoplayingsteve oh wow- I am so sorry! I can imagine it did!!! I’m so thankful I never had kids just because some of the things that come out of my own mouth- not realizing the consequences it could have on someone else when I really don’t mean anything by it.
