Don’t answer the phone. You make the rules. It’s nice to keep in touch with family, and perhaps they were impressed with you, and want to stay in touch. Only problem is their definition of “stay in touch” is different from yours, so you set your own boundaries. Let it go to VM, and respond 24-hours later, then you can respond 48-hours later, etc; until you reach a time that’s best for you. This is the kinder gentler way to wean people off you. Of course, you may want nothing to do with them at all, and just ignore them. That’s one extreme, but really it’s up to you to set your boundaries.
