Sometimes, being honest hurts people...even loved ones...

But if you keep things bottled up, you'll explode or be resentful or bitter.

Is there a formula to loving family and friends and others but still being true to yourself and being capable of self-care?

It’s important to have consistent boundaries and to learn respectful communication skills. If you haven’t had good boundaries for a while then it can take a long time for people to learn the new standards. People learn how to treat us by what we allow. Sometimes certain people can’t handle treating others in a healthy way and you have to put distance there. Fighting with people to treat you better doesn’t work. All you can do is be clear, consistent and adamant.
