Do any of you know about interpreting dreams?

My dreams have been bad for the last 3 1/2 years but in the last few months, they seem to be getting worse. my dreams always seem to be about someone trying to kill me and in the past three years I have dreamed that four out of my five kids have all been killed or died somehow.

Lately I’ve been dreaming about dead bodies all over the place. last night in my dream I was literally rolling up a dead body into a canvas or plastic tarp to stuff into my car.

I Don’t even have words for it at this point as to how I feel about all of this.

I have a really good life and I can’t think of anything that would be really troubling me to cause this and I don’t really watch TV at all and maybe one movie a week and it’s usually not even a scary movie so I don’t even know where this is coming from

I don't think there's a real explanation for dreams and what they mean. Multiple schools of thought though:

1. Psychological: Freudian Theory, Jungian Theory, Information Processing Theory.

2. Neuroscientific: Activation-Synthesis Hypothesis, Memory Consolidation (seems to make the most sense to me and both branches are connected).

3. Cultural and Spiritual Interpretations: Symbolism and Archetypes, Prophetic Dreams

4. Emotional and Stress-Related Theories: Emotional Processing, Stress and Anxiety

5. Personal Reflection: Self-Reflection and Insight

I also believe that #1, #3, #4 and #5, act as feeding mechanisms for #2, where the actual purpose of dreaming lies.

@Northwest Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

@JimboSaturn

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

That puts you in the Freudian camp 🤣 Unless, of course, you're Bill Clinton.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Northwest Clinton would dream about the cigar to consolidate his memory of his day :P

Actually I'm not a big Freudian, everything is sex with that guy! I think I'm more in the memory consolidation camp or information processing, or emotional . Hell I don't know. lol

That doesn’t sound good. My view is they are not really symbolic, but they are on a spectrum of completely random to influenced by my current mindset and thoughts. I’ve had them influenced by the last movie I watched.
It does sound a bit like something is bubbling up inside you.
This is NOT good. Did you have a traumatic event? Could you have PTSD? These sound like PTSD nightmares

@Guardian I suppose I do but it’s from 30 years ago and it’s something that I don’t really think about too often and it doesn’t affect me physically or emotionally anymore. I’ve let go of it

I can usually tell where mine come from, what caused specific aspects of them.
Not always though.

Sometimes I have them, not as bad as yours and not as frequent as yours.

Any night without any dreams is good for me.

But when I have them, it upsets my day.
Sorry to hear this.

Do you think a lot about past? About peoppe who do not matter?
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@scorpiolovedeep I don’t think too much about the past. Moreso about the present and the future

Is your life in transition in some way? Do you feel like you are ending something or losing something?

I've had similar morbid dreams but not that intense or frequent.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Jenny1234 Hmm strange, well I don't know. Are you thinking of your own mortality? You seem very fit and alive.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@JimboSaturn no I don’t think about my own mortality much. I’m actually quite confused about these dreams because I can’t really think of anything in my life that would cause them
@Jenny1234 Hence, the post.

A puzzle, but I'd not put too much worry into it.

If you are a believer, read and pray a little before turning in...
Look for the symbolism. Death signifies something ending. The trauma could be you being scared of letting go.

Do you have any signs of menopause? Repression in the past can be brought to the forefront again in many different ways - including dreams or anger.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Adogslife yes I’m starting menopause now. Does that bring on bad dreams ?
John628 · 18-21, M
Do you still have those dreams? Maybe if you listen to calm or fun music beforehand it might lighten the mood of the dreams or watching a funny silly show before bed
Are you feeling stressed in any way, and your mind is dealing with this stress through your dreams?
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Ghostinthemachine I’m stressed at work. Been really busy there since the new year
@Jenny1234 That could possibly be it. Your stress is manifest itself in those awful dreams, a way for your brain to purge your feelings

Just a thought. I’m not a professional

There just unfinished thoughts we gave throughout our waking hours of the day 💁‍♂️
So if you have kinky perverted dreams …

I've never put much stock in dream interpretation.
