Taboo or not Taboo

This is such a difficult topic as what some of society may consider taboo another society may consider it normal and natural.

Personally I consider that I do not mind any taboo subjects - but i do let my conscience guide me.

My gut is also a pretty good indicator

To me taboo means something that no one should do under any circumstances.

Anything else is ok as long as its between consenting adults and no one gets hurt.

@Natasmai very well said

@Natasmai Yes - a very good definition!

Obviously polyamory isn't taboo among the Zo'é tribe of Brazil. Yet you will see most other societies fight the very concept as if it were a life or death matter.

I have my own beliefs about life in general. Also something that is being fought about as a life and death matter in most societies.

You see everyone is both right and wrong. Change doesn't care about either. It just is.

Yet today's societies think anything that goes against the basis of their individual beliefs as a taboo subjects.

Polyamory most definitely attacks the basis of most societies values. And they simply refuse to talk about it. Or just say it doesn't work even when confronted with a very real and working example of polyamory that has at minimum been working for hundreds of years.

@DeWayfarer I agree with your sentiments - I have just found that a lady of my acquaintance is into polyamory. I was shocked at first but now think that she deserves all she quests after
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Carpediem1953 just a word of note and because of some real experiences.

Honesty, and complete honest, is key to such a relationships. That's on all parties. Which is why it's hard to maintain such relationships in this monogamous society.

Any dishonesty will be use by society against such relationships. It's what I hate about monogamous relationships because they themselves are dishonest. Yet are the hardest critics of polyamory.

That actually isn't a problem with the Zo'é yet. For everyone is polygamist. How long though is up for speculation. Christians are attempting to invade them even right now with "beads, bobbles and such". Just like native American Indians.

@DeWayfarer you are very wise and to the point

I think all taboos must be overcome until no one feels excluded and given that the forbidden becomes attractive when paired with boredom
VelvetDoll · 26-30, F
Taboo is so subjective! When you're open-minded, you could try understanding other people's taboos. As long as there is respect and not hurting anyone, then I'm fine.

When I was growing up in the rural Midwest it was considered taboo for a white man to date a black girl!!
2ndtimeguy · 61-69, M
@OldMan70 yes so many started to adopt biracial children plus those who married black women

I try not to judge because none of us is perfect and there is no such thing as normal . If something makes me uncomfortable I wont talk about it but dont judge . If we were all the same or what society calls normal what ever they think that is , it would be a bloody boring world .
Wantingwidow · 56-60, F
What is or is not taboo can change greatly from generation to generation as well. Things that were quite common can become out of favor, and switch to and fro
I doin’t care how you interpret taboo, but I’m into it.
theAlchemist · 56-60, M
There is an ancient symbol that I've been using in my artworks since I first started making art 34 years ago. It is considered "taboo" in today's times.
I think my gut is probably my best indicator.
Tython · 31-35, M
Something to consider is why it's taboo. In most cases it's simple as "not normal" or something like that. Other cases are because of the possible health detriments or unseen psychological/emotional traumas.

I agree in the majority of cases that personal conscience should be the deciding factor. But not all cases.
TheotherAndy · 41-45, M
Is what taboo?
