I live in the Midwest so the surrounding area gets hit by twisters a helluva lot. I've never seen one up close but I've seen green skies plenty of times (a precursor to a tornado) and a couple of years ago when a town close by got hit with a tornado, I witnessed incredibly high wind speeds. The wind is loud af so I can imagine it sounding like a train in an actual tornado.

@mykonos: yikes, green sky?
mykonos · 22-25, T
@iamnikki Yeah, the surroundings become this pale green color. It's super psychedelic, and when I saw it as a kid left home alone it was very scary.

One came REALLY close, my mom's car was lifted by it on the way to a job she had at the time. THANK GOD she got out of there. I think they mean how loud it is, not actual train like sound.

Columbus Georgia a few years back. I was huddled in a motel stairway. Kinda scary but never heard the train.
My old foster father was near one when it hit and he said it does sound like a train.

Nope, & hope never.

Have seen 3 with my eyes and another one went over the house & sounded like a train a few years ago...I was hiding in the hall linen closet
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@cherokeepatti: wow, that's scary
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@iamnikki: Yeah and while I am curled up inside the linen closet I say a little prayer. Makes you think about things while you are waiting for it to pass.
When I went to school in Georgia I once saw one off in the distance on the freeway when I was returning from a visit to another city. The sky was completely dark and I could see the funnel along the horizon. We were lucky it was headed away from the direction we were going. I could only hear wind, though. 😳

@bijouxbroussard: I'd hate to be driving while one is on the ground
