What's up with the sudden need to build data centers?

Like what has changed? Why does every county need a data center all fo sudden? When they were rarely needed before?

AI doesn't seem to need it, is there some other new technology, or what is causing the need for data centers all of a sudden?


Just seems like all we're getting is complete silence?
