This time yesterday

I wouldn’t usually mention something like this since it’s heavy and hard to put into words. Yesterday a huge fire broke out in Hong Kong at several 30+ floor residential towers. From what I’ve heard they managed to control it for the most part.

Apparently it could have been prevented. People had been worried about it for a while. I can’t stop thinking about how surreal that must feel. To voice a worry, a real fear, put it aside, and then have it happen anyway.

I’ve also seen people shifting from shock to anger. It makes sense. When something this big happens and it could have been avoided, that frustration builds. Even though it doesn’t affect me directly and I don’t know anyone there personally, it still makes me stop and reflect on how fragile life is and how much we owe each other as human beings. How careful we should be with the people and moments around us.

It is times like this where it is important to remember it is okay to enjoy yourself. But maybe take a moment to think about the people who are not okay right now. People who lost homes, family, safety. It matters that we do not forget them even if we are far away.

I saw something about this yesterday. I hope there were not a lot of casualties.

I saw news about it yesterday on Facebook and at first I thought it was just another hoax. Unfortunately it wasn't.
