I often have women go out of their way to comment on my hair and each time it makes me feel all precious as get out. I’ve gotten used to simply accepting the comment and sincerely thanking them for it.
What I can’t accept just yet is compliments on what they perceive as strengths in me. Never once have I questioned their genuineness because each time it’s come from someone who I know loves me and knows some of the journey I’ve had. But it’s still hard to see myself as so many women in my life do. I’ll get there though.

I accept every compliment graciously. They are too rare to ignore!
Ulterior motives? If I give a compliment it is because it makes me feel good to be accentuating the positive.
And there's never anything wrong with trying to be nice. We need more of that.

An occasional compliment would be lovely.
But if as you mentioned
But if as you mentioned
cause that's all they do is comment on your appearance
I would find it annoying. It would start to feel like flattery and not sincere compliments. Or she has a crush? Lol.

I would take it as a compliment and appreciate it, absolutely, but beyond once or twice gets weird. I personally would feel like she's clingy maybe...

Girl power, right? When someone gives me a compliment, I beam with gratitude. I'd totally do the same for another woman - spreading the love and appreciation!

For me,
I say what I mean. If I think she has a lovely dress. I'm going to tell her I love her taste in clothing

I would be polite and thank them. All the while I would assume theres ere ulterior motives because no one is that friendly without cause. The motives may not be negative, but Id be cautious in how I interact with this person.

I dont know what you mean by ulterior motives.
It usually just opens up more conversation as to where you bought the item or go to get your haircut.

What kind of motive would they have, like what could they think they're going to get from you? If there was something, I'd also start to wonder. But since I have little power at work, I happily take compliments when given :)

People barely notice I'm alive, so I know compliments are real when I get them. I don't look for ulterior motives because I don't have anything anyone wants.

I usually think that they don't mean it and they're just saying it to be nice.
saintsong · 41-45, F
@HootyTheNightOwl I personally say things cause I mean it, if I'm like wow you look beautiful, you must have came into the room glowing, and I saw it, and had to mention it!
HootyTheNightOwl · 41-45
@saintsong I'm weird with compliments... having grown up around constant put downs, it's hard to imagine that anyone sees anything good in me.
When it starts being every time I see them, I'd be suspicious 🤔😁🤣
