You must be very careful whom you call upon in prayer.
Is your faithfulness to eternal God, or some active, random force in the universe, which you refer to as your "Higher Power"? There is a huge difference between knowing Almighty God as Supreme Creator of this universe vs. a random higher power.
Higher Power could mean any "thing" to any ONE...even an atheist...and calling God a higher power is to present God as a lesser deity. Such a watered-down theology has not helped anyone. This is why I never refer to Yahweh as a "Higher Power". Though supreme power is definitely one of His characteristics, I feel it is irreverent and extremely demeaning to call Him a "Higher Power", in place of "God".
Manmade religion involves believing in a random higher power, while spirituality refers to "something" bigger than ourselves, but not necessarily God Almighty. While religion and spirituality are often viewed as synonymous, they very much involve different beliefs and practices.
By praying that prayer, you have just left yourself/soul and spirit, wide open to "whatever" is out there. Your idea of a Higher Power that you can trust, will be uniquely your own, so be very careful when praying to the spiritual world, because there are LOTS of "higher powers" out there... meaning those "above ourselves", which includes Satan! When you do not pray directly to Almighty God, creator of this universe, just know that He will not acknowledge your prayer.
Ephesians 6:12 - "For we wrestle NOT against flesh and blood, but against principalities (wicked, fallen angels), against POWERS, against the RULERS OF DARKNESS of this world, and against SPIRITUAL WICKEDNESS in HIGH PLACES."
Those of which we definitely don't want to invite into our lives nor give over our "will" to!!
At its core, a higher power in spirituality, refers to a diety or supernatural being that some believe to be higher or greater than themselves or other gods, and controls the universe. Then there are others, who do not believe in such beings, but that the universe or nature (the sun or moon) is their higher power. To each their own, but be aware that whatever or whomever you choose to worship, you are inviting into your life, and giving permission to that particular entity to interact and do as it wills, with your life! Dangle an open mind before Satan, and he'll be SURE to take complete control.
But there's far greater a danger, which involves the loss of our very soul! Some substitute God, with some "Higher Power". Can you see the danger? Jesus said not all paths, lead to heaven. He said this is one truth, we can't afford to get wrong!
Eternity is FAR longer than our lives here, so we need to make sure that our soul's destination is not only a good one, but the best choice. What are all these things on earth good for, if we lose our own soul? Mark 8: 34-38. There is absolutely nothing we own, that is greater nor more precious, than our own soul! There is certainly nothing in this world, that I would give in exchange for my soul!!
Psalm 86:8-10 - "There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. All the nations you have made, shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things; you ALONE, are God."
We are all in the same [u]spiritual boat...in need of a Savior to save us from hell, which is Jesus. He asks us to come to Him, so He can save us from the condemnation that SIN placed on us all. Jesus keeps His promise to save anyone who will come to Him, asking for forgiveness of their sins. He cleanses us of all unrighteousness, bringing us back into right standing and fellowship with God our Father. We certainly have no power to save ourselves from our own sins. Jesus said there's only one path that leads to salvation and eternal life in heaven, and that is through Him.
Now it's up to you. You never have to earn Jesus' love or acceptance. No one will ever love you as much as Jesus already loves, and accepts you... just as you are. Will you believe God over man, and accept Him as your personal Savior? He turns no one away. Jesus said not to put this decision off. Simply pray to Jesus and ask Him to save you, and He will keep His promise to do so, then give you a brand new life in Christ. Today is the day of salvation:
"Today, if only you would hear His voice, do not harden your hearts." Psalm 95 7 -8
