if someone insinuates something about you which is not true

how should you react? insinuate means to subtly suggest something in an indirect way....like a form of mind game....this happened recently and i want to know the best way to respond?? without getting angry.

You should’ve dealt with it at the very instant it happened. I would’ve used biting sarcasm. How, would’ve depended on the circumstances and the sex of the offender.
