if someone gives an opinion about you which isn't fact

how should you respond to that person? they give an opinion about you which isn't based in any truth, but they believe it to be true, what should your response be?

Unless this person holds a 'position of power' over you (parent; boss;...bank Manager ?) Their opinion is only worth the value you give it.
