i'm scared of my mum travelling with my sisters on the motorway

my elderly mothers travelling to see my terminally ill aunt tomorrow, my sisters are driving her there, but they have to travel via motorway and motorways frighten me and i'm worried about my mother having to travel on one?

there's nothing i can do as my mum is going to see my aunt who is very ill with cancer and doesn't have very long to live.......my mum assured me that my sisters are good drivers, that my elder sister drives on the motorway all the time....but it still made me feel worried.

I can understand how you feel. I just want to say that everything will be okay, and that there is really nothing to worry about. Now, I know these are just words coming from a random stranger on the internet. But what I can say, is that I have had my fair share of anxious thoughts with things like this, and in reality nothing bad ever happened.

Your Mum will 100% get to see your Aunt safely, and she will return home safely too :) What I've learned over the years that has helped me, breathing exercises. It's also a coping mechanism for anxiety.

All you do is, when you start to feel anxious about something, take in a deep breath and count to 4. When you reach 4, exhale as slow as you inhaled and count to 4. I find that if I do this 3 or 4 times, it does help to calm me. One thing that I did also start doing was watching baseball games on YouTube. For some reason, I don't know if it's from my childhood, but watching baseball games for me is like doing the breathing technique and because it's a baseball game I become fixated on the video and soon forget my anxious thoughts.

Be well sir :)

Driving a car is a normal everyday occurrence. There’s nothing to fear.

Motorways are safer because of limited cross traffic
