how should you deal with people who say or insinuate demeaning things

one of my favourite colours i like to wear is red and once i had someone insinuate that i not only didn't didn't suit red, but i resembled mickey mouse wearing red...and i felt furious and nearly went berserk on the person...but at the last minute exercised self restraint and walked away.

how should you deal with people like that who are demeaning and just not nice?

Say something like “well that’s insulting” and walk away. I find that people who do that are usually upset or unhappy with themselves or jealous that maybe you are bold enough to wear something they are not.
