I NEED ADVICE!!! Complicated work situation!!!

Long story short, I've resolved to quit my job. It's not congruent with my educational background, and the hours are insane and unpleasant. Yesterday my supervisor wanted me to work for 14 hours and I had to put my foot down.

So I've been applying to many jobs including jobs in an adjacent industry, and research jobs which are my first preference.

The car rental company wants me to come swap out my company car again on Thursday, so I asked to take the whole day off. Will be using that for my interview for a research job, and also an interview with my potential co-advisor for my PhD which will start next year, to kill two birds with one stone.

Now my manager (not the field supervisor that I was telling I can't work late) can probably tell at this point that I'm not excited about my job, even though I'm discharging my duties well.

Well guess what, my manager just messaged me that since I'm having the day off, he'd like me to come into the office to check-in with him and see how I'm doing. He said he also told the VP in charge of the office in my city and he's interested in "checking in" with me too.

I definitely don't think I'm going to be fired but I feel like they want to just know how close I am to quitting. Because I think at this stage anyone with a brain can tell that I'm not excited about the job anymore.

Mentally, I've already checked out of this job and I'm ready to leave. But I still don't have an offer yet, though I hope to soon.

At the same time, I don't want to lie to them that everything is going fine, because when I plan to eventually resign I wanted to tell my manager why I was choosing to resign and be honest about it.

There's no going back on my decision to leave my current company, it's almost final at this point. But like my friends have rightly advised, I can't leave without having an offer on the table. Especially since I'm an immigrant, and so I'll have 60 days to find a new job or leave the US.

What do I do???
