Do you get your water heater serviced & flushed every year?

It helps maintain your unit since it helps flush out any sediments & build-up.

nothing worse than sediment in the pipes. it ruins the taste completely

@saragoodtimes Are you being serious now? 😅

I have a filtration system under my kitchen sink.
@marsbar trying to be. the harder the water the worse it is on pipes and appliances. our water here is so hard it ate the water softener in less than 5 years

@saragoodtimes I have hard water here too. The plumber said that getting a reverse osmosis system for the entire house is the way to go if you have money for it.
@marsbar Alan has a system in the basement I never asked what it all does. I know my bath is a lot nicer than in my old house.

@saragoodtimes Oh, so maybe there’s one installed then.
@marsbar we're in an area where there are a lot of coal mines and now drilling through shale for gas. maybe that affects the water
marsbar · F
@saragoodtimes Yes, I agree.
@marsbar radon is a problem in this area too. we have a system to remove that from the basement too

@saragoodtimes I remember getting the radon test done for our new construction house in NJ in 2002.
@marsbar it's required here in our part of Pa now. mortgage companies want to be sure there is none or it's being filtered out of the house

I don’t know what radon is @saragoodtimes.
Clearly I haven’t lived.
When you say water heater, are you talking about a boiler? The thing that heats the water for washing and the radiators in winter?
@Oneofthestormboys radon is a radioactive gas from the natural breakdown of uranium in the soil. in high concentrations it causes lung cancer. a water heater just heats the water in the house providing hot water for washing and cooking and bathing

I just replaced the boiler in my house to one that can run on hydrogen if needs be. @saragoodtimes. I can’t control what shit the eminent people in higher echelons of society decide should or shouldn’t be in household water unfortunately, and I’m at a point in life where I’m somewhat resigned to my fate. Headphones on. Block out world...
@Oneofthestormboys here we just want to control hard water. it's not good for washing cooking or bathing. it leaves my skin feeling like there's a film on it

@saragoodtimes Our water is rock hard here - think cliffs of Dover, and you’ve got what’s in all the water on the south coast of the U.K.

@saragoodtimes That makes sense.
