What would you think about your government banning the sale of alcohol and cigarettes during lockdown ?

My government here in South Africa has done this during our 3 week lockdown which started last Thurday.
I think a lot of addicts are going to be quite furious.
The government's reasons are as follows :
- Drinking and smoking weakens your immune system.
- It's also an attempt at reducing domestic violence caused by cabin fever.
- Being drunk reduces people's ability to be socially distant.
- The use of liquor “reduces a person’s ability to exercise the social distancing and personal hygiene required” to limit the spread of the virus from person to person.

I foresee many people breaking the law in order to get their fix. What do you think ?

Genuine addicts will do ANYTHING to get their fix up to and including hurting other people. To stop an alcoholic drinking instantly without medical help can kill them, as others have said. What will become apparent are the large number of people who will be in denial that they are addicted but will be forced to realise that they are not in control: a chemical controls them.

@Frank52 Thank you for saying that. It's the truth and many people do not realise how addicted they are until the product is banned. People can get unusuallly nasty when they need their fix.

Let's ban coffee as well shall we ? That could start a world war. 🙂

@Wraithorn I drink de-caff so not an issue, but I know a few people who would have a melt down without coffee. 😀
