What would you think about your government banning the sale of alcohol and cigarettes during lockdown ?

My government here in South Africa has done this during our 3 week lockdown which started last Thurday.
I think a lot of addicts are going to be quite furious.
The government's reasons are as follows :
- Drinking and smoking weakens your immune system.
- It's also an attempt at reducing domestic violence caused by cabin fever.
- Being drunk reduces people's ability to be socially distant.
- The use of liquor “reduces a person’s ability to exercise the social distancing and personal hygiene required” to limit the spread of the virus from person to person.

I foresee many people breaking the law in order to get their fix. What do you think ?

For alcoholics, untended withdrawal can be as fatal as the virus.

A side effect of sudden obstruction to almost any addiction is irritation and anger.

The cure may be worse than the ailment.

At the very least they should provide free weed.

@Mamapolo2016 You see the whole picture Polly. You often do. 🙂
I like your idea of providing weed. It will help to chill people out.
Luckily for me I got enough weed to last me through the lockdown. Not everyone is so lucky though.
@Wraithorn I want a pic of your pantry.

@Mamapolo2016 Yeah...:-)
I hope the guy I bought my weed from is Okay. He supports his family by busking outside certain local shops which are closed now and he must stay home for 3 weeks. He has no income now except for the money I gave him for weed. The government is not very popular right now with people like him. This virus is even changing politics in it's own way. It's a powerful microscopic thing.

When last did us Earthlings experience such a worldwide phenomenon like this ?

@Mamapolo2016 That is one reason why our government won't close the beer, or liquor stores. They don't want people detoxing, and tying up the ERs. I imagine some people would also poison themselves by drinking homemade hooch.

@chrisCA That reminds me of a cheap homemade drink that some people sell in my country. I presume it will become more popular among hard drinkers during the ban. Unfortunately it can contain ingredients like battery acid and brake fluid. Not good...
@Wraithorn US earthlings who are still here haven't. Until now.

@Mamapolo2016 We need our grandparents who endured such things during the 2nd world war to give advice but they're dead and gone.
