What would you think about your government banning the sale of alcohol and cigarettes during lockdown ?

My government here in South Africa has done this during our 3 week lockdown which started last Thurday.
I think a lot of addicts are going to be quite furious.
The government's reasons are as follows :
- Drinking and smoking weakens your immune system.
- It's also an attempt at reducing domestic violence caused by cabin fever.
- Being drunk reduces people's ability to be socially distant.
- The use of liquor “reduces a person’s ability to exercise the social distancing and personal hygiene required” to limit the spread of the virus from person to person.

I foresee many people breaking the law in order to get their fix. What do you think ?

That is a good move, Mr. Ramaphosa. I am being genuine. Well, this will force people to collide with their addictions (especially to tobacco) head on.

(I have been a resident in SA between 1990 and Jan 2020. I am currently under self-isolation in Europe)

@Lanyx Thanks for your comment. We'll see what happens I suppose. Mr Ramaphosa left it up to the minister of police to make the announcement. Maybe he is trying to deflect anger from himself.
Did you enjoy your time in S.A. ?

@Wraithorn I effectively grew up, studied and worked in SA. In the most part, I did enjoy SA. I loved the wide-open veld. I enjoyed long journeys where for tens of km was nothing.
Juju's treats of land reform were my trigger.

@Lanyx Now isn't the time or place to tackle peoples addictions. A public health crisis that is dependent on.people staying calm in varying degrees of isolation isn't the time.not place to force people to collide with their addictions and vices. It's a recipe for disaster that moves the consequences of their bad lifestyle choices further o to the public.

@Lanyx The fauna and flora are quite special. I know many people who left because of Juju and similar behaviour. I wish you luck there in Europe.
