I'm not prepared for any of those either.
Most of the people I know in the quiet little town I grew up with own guns. Hunters training was just part of growing up. Most everyone has guns. My son in law has an open carry permit so he can pack his pointless weapon anywhere he goes if so chooses. Most of my family members are hunters or gun enthusiasts.
A Hurricane could kill me.
I could fall off the dock and hit my head on the way down.
I could die on my flight to France next month.
Hell, I could die on the streets of France.
I've not prepared for those scenarios either.
I don't see any reason for you to be pointing this out to me. Are you planning on robbing and raping me? Now, I realize both can happen. Even by you. You're a total stranger. You could be anything. And Ive heard on the news of these things happening. I've seen it in police reports.
And how does this work? If I'm going to protect myself with this gun, I've got to have it handy, ammo nearby, ready to go so that in my fear and panic I can get the gun loaded and shoot whoever is in my house.
Do I keep one upstairs, downstairs, in the garage and in my bedroom? That's a lot of guns for something that is highly likely to not happen.
There are 125.82 million households in the United States according to the U.S. Census Bureau. There were, on average 3.7 million burglaries. Which means .30% of people in the U.S get burglarized. Of this less than 1%, actually, less than 2/3 of a percent, chance of getting robbed, 3% of this less than 1% were raped. Now more like 12% of these are violent burglaries with more than 60% of the assailants not having a weapon on them. So of that 12%.. you do have to question if there would have been violence if the owners did not try to shoot the assailant. But to find those number you would have to break down the whole thing by who attacked who.
So I have less than 3% chance of this happening. In fact, .008% chance of getting raped while being robbed during a home invasion. do you know what the statistics of dying from cancer, car collisions, falls, drownings? You prepared for all of those too?

you do know that that .008 number equals just over 11000 households. Eleven thousand. and most of the assailants don't have weapons.
Do you realize how much fear you have over something that is not likely to happen? Why not learn a form of hand to hand combat? That can't be taken away form you. No one can make you accidentally go off. You're kids aren't going to kill anyone with you.

@nonsensiclesnail it has happened to me , and I do know martial arts , which saved my life and my son's . The guy cane at me do fast I couldn't draw my weapon and fire. So I did what knew to do ... after knocking him down I did draw and before I could fire the police arrived . The guy was really big and it took everything I had to hurt him bad enough to drop him , but I hurt myself in the process and could not have fought him off again . Do you really think the media reports the true numbers of home Invasions rapes and murders ? No ... because then people will want to buy guns . It's your life lady
