Do you think it's ok for a female to have to wear "cargo" trousers as part of their work attire?

I went to see some friends in the city yesterday and all in all, as the weather ended up being a lot sunnier than the forecast promised, we had a fairly nice time.

The only fly in the ointment was when my friend and I visited a new shop. All the staff members seemed to have been mandated to wear a blue top with the company logo on it (no complaints there) and black cargo trousers.

Now I'm not sure precisely why people who simply work in a shop need all those pockets that cargo trousers have and if I'm honest, I have no complaints about the male members of staff who have to wear these cargo trousers.

However, at least half of the members of staff were female and they were also wearing cargo trousers. Now I know that there are certain establishments that insist upon female staff members superseding their femininity by wearing baseball caps for example (certain fast food places). However, the shop in question catered for a significantly more culturally refined clientele than a place like Kentucky's Fried Chicken and the members of staff in question were actually well spoken which makes this travesty even worse. They were the types of ladies that this time of year, would not dress like a 'chav' but would most likely adorn themselves in a tasteful summer dress and so making them dress in cargo trousers seems almost an act of violence.

It's outrageous now they make female healthcare workers wear scrubs like males instead of the good old skirt and also the cap that should accompany it. Makes me want to quit the job and move to Afghanistan.

My opinion is that everyone should be wearing cargo pants all of the time because they're practical and fashion is dumb.

Yes, put on your summer dress and fix that car.

If you don't like the policy don't work there. Plenty of other people will take the job. Explain how wearing cargo pants makes a woman look like a piece of meat for other people to use?

Judgemental.

I find them practical. If ladies don't like the shorts, I am sure someone else would be more than willing to take their place.

I think a lot of companies supply trousers as protective clothing. Less chance of scrapes and cuts

Oh get over yourself you old fuddy duddy, in many jobs, Police, Military, healthcare, cleaners, bus drivers, etc. Women wear trousers of some sort, often part of a working uniform. The days where all women wore dresses and skirts are long gone, sorry if you're not getting a leg show anymore when you go shopping 😖

@spjennifer and why do people who work in a shop need to wear cargo trousers.
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@Bellows They don't need to, unless it's part of the shop's uniform, then they have to...

I would prefer cargo trousers and have the right to wear what men wear as that hasn't always been the case. I don't want focus to be on my body when I am at work. This is how to make women less objects and so I'm not sure why you are upset? It's a privilege if anything. Practical comfortable work attire over a tight short skirt and heels every day!

Who cares what they wear? Corporate uniforms are a corporate choice, and you can boycott the shop or write a Karen letter if it bothers you so much.

As long as shorts are permitted, it is absolutely ok.

I prefer Popeyes over KFC.

Bellows agree

Do you even understand the concept of a uniform?
Have you ever even worked in a paid job?
IamCuriousBabe · 51-55, F
@OogieBoogie Prisons require uniforms too. Hahaha
@IamCuriousBabe yeah...not so keen on ever needing to wear one of those 😏
