I am visiting friends in the city today. I just know I'll see at least one young lady who thinks it's acceptable to go to the shops in her dressing g

Partly I would like to attribute this to the fact there is a large campus in the city and the students want to demonstrate their nonchalant raffishness by not adhering to convention but often the young ladies I see in dressing gowns are obviously working class from their accents and the horrid stodge I see in their shopping baskets.

I am not saying that on a Sunday one must look immaculate before they leave the house but there is a minimum standard of formality one must always confirm to when entering the public sphere

It is actually worrying for some people to see people in the shop in their dressing gowns because the inherent assumption people will make is that they haven't even gave the least cursory attention to sanitary needs.

It is not sassy adorable or endearing. It is slovenliness.

{@bellows] yes ok i get your point and it is an opinion but there air of snobbery there on your part saying she was working class by the contents of her shopping basket you may not understand her circumstance class is not an issue

@smiler2012 Agree. Bellows had an arguable opinion to state but tainted her presentation straight-off with an irrelevant, meanly-put tangent that worked against her.
Yesterday I saw a bloke walking across Newport Bridge in his dressing gown.....had bare legs below it!
Weird.
This was around 8a.m..

Oh good grief, will you just stop with your snobbishness and go back to the 1950's already. I'm quite certain that you're dressed to the nines to go shopping for groceries with your little hat and white gloves too, right? Did you check for runs in your stockings too?😖

"It is not sassy adorable or endearing. It is slovenliness".

I couldn't have put it better myself.
I actually feel a modicum of anger when I see disgusting slobs out in public like this.

I often wonder if they have any thing on under these dressing gowns.
