I don't know if controlling your entire dream is possible... although dreaming can be directed to what you want to dream about before you finally enter REM.
Before falling asleep, deep thoughts about who/what you want to dream about slides you into your first dream about just that.
Controlling a dream beyond that I'm not sure of..
