common table or table for one?

If you go out for dinner alone, would you prefer a table for one or would you join a table with other single eaters?

Shouldn't restaurants have common tables again?

I don't mind either.
I usually carry a book with me and often read while eating.
Also enjoy people watching.

If a place is busy, I might ask a single diner if they mind if I share their table. So far, no one has said no.
I say thank you, sit, then keep to myself and read -
unless they start a conversation, in which case I respond positively and join in.
I've had some interesting encounters that way. People are endlessly fascinating.
