How do you kill time when you're bored?

What is the most productive way to kill time? How do you kill time on a slow day at the office? What are some good ways to kill time at work when it's a slow day?
Some days are more busy than others. Sometimes the day is long and hard and some days we've got a lot of downtime and do pretty much nothing all afternoon. A few times a year I show up at 8 and leave at 4 without doing a single thing related to my job. On the slower days I tend to listen to a lot of podcasts, browse the Internet. Make myself food due to boredom and take unnecessarily long bathroom breaks. What do you do to kill time? What's the best way to kill time away from home with limited resources?
So I have an eye appointment tomorrow and every time I have these appointments in waiting for about 5 hours to get in (public hospitals, ugh). Risking leaving to get food or go for a walk means risking giving up your spot if you are called when you're out. What's the best think to kill time in such a situation? How do you kill time at night when you can't sleep? How do you deal with boredom? What are some creative/engaging activities to kill time?
I'm kind of work-from-home type of guy and in between projects. I get bored. I've usually lots of free time and boredom is killing me. Intrigue me! What's the best way to kill time while stuck at home with little to no friends? How do you kill time when you're feeling lonely? When did you feel the loneliest you've ever felt? What’s the loneliest you’ve ever been? What’s the loneliest thing you’ve ever done? What was the loneliest moment of your life? What was the time when you barely escaped death? How did you narrowly escape death? Tell me about a time where you came closest to death. What is closest that you have been to death? What is your craziest near death experience? Or how about a decision you made not to go somewhere and that saved your life? Please include details. What small, insignificant decision you'd taken actually helped you escape death? When did you least have a narrow escape with death?
