What will you do on your next day off?
Well I make myself a cooked breakfast which I don't get to do when I'm in work, bit of bacon, cup of coffee, scrambled eggs.
Bang on Jeremy Kyle for a bit, then realize that it stresses me out and I'm not that interested in it but it's nice to have a go.
Do a bit of house work, the things that need to be done immediately then go and play Oldschool Runescape for a bit, later on go on my weights, clean the rest of the house, get a shower get things ready. That's mostly what happens now and again if I've got plans we just miss out the Runescape part and fill in; See family, go out with girlfriend, walk dog, see friends.
Then at the very end of the day complain that I have work tomorrow and complain a bit more about not having enough time off to do the things I want, despite having all day to do them. Weekend routine: sleep in till 6:30 or so, listen to music, drink coffee and catching up on news, run some errands, take an extra-long walk, catch up on household tasks, call my mom, watch some sporting event on tv, drink a few cocktails, cook something nice for dinner. Maybe get romantic with the wife...
I work 6 days a week, so on my lone day off, I tend to lounge around and sleep way too much to recoup all the sleep time lost. Unfortunately that soaks up just about all of my free time, and makes those days just lost. What would you do on your ideal day off?
Imagine for a moment that it's Friday night. You have accomplished everything that you wanted to accomplish this week, and are finally able to treat yourself to a day off tomorrow. And I mean a day /off/. You have no commitments at all, and are able to do whatever you want (within reason). How would you spend your day? What are your favorite "day off" activities that cost little to no money?
In what ways can you manage to have fun experiences and live a full life while maintaining a full wallet?
Usually I’ll go to the gym with my friends from school. If not we’ll either hang out and play football Or play video games (mainly vanguard and war zone). Every once in a blue moon we’ll go out to eat. Other than that there isn’t much I do since I’m a student And I’m not currently working.
Hope to finally make plans with friends. But know that in reality, have to turn into my own wife. Go grocery shopping, take out gas money for my ride to work, do laundry, iron something for work, set up the dog's auto feeder, get my trash gathered up and taken out. Tidy the place up a bit too. And today, have to figure out where I'm going to put a 6' Christmas tree, that my neighbor gave me.
I wake up at normal time and go through my routine as usual accept after I get out of the shower, instead of putting on my work clothes, I put on clean pajamas and then get back into bed and either go back to sleep or watch movies, play video games, etc.
I stay home all day on the net, watching tv. Then in the evening I go out to pick something up to eat, take it home and eat it while watching a favorite tv show or movie. This weekend it will be Baskets the clown (the new season started). I actually just finished a thirty hour collection of essays by Christopher Hitchens. That was a pretty hard read that required an embarrassing amount of wikipedia/dictionary checking to figure out what the hell the guy was talking about half the time. I could not have just sat down and read that one cover to cover that is for sure.
Laundry, grocery shopping, gym, day drinking, netflix, reddit, then later in the night I'll go out to one of my favorite bars. I haven't had a friday or saturday night off in years.
I recently took up ten pin bowling. Always liked it, only played it once maybe every year or so, wasn't too bad considering that and when I went bowling with family at christmas I decided then that I'd get more serious about it. Been going every week since then - looking to buy my first ball and other equipment. I feel like it should be more of a thing in the UK..
I also watch a lot of movies, US tv shows, have personal projects - especially software ones but designing projects to print with my 3d printer, electronics, that kind of thing. I've also been thinking about volunteering for St John Ambulance or the Red Cross - maybe that's something to consider?
If you've got loads of time but a limited budget, I think you should make the most of the opportunity to focus on self-development. Learn a new skill, language, craft, area of knowledge... or maybe try getting involved with local community or charity groups - anything which you'd find hard when time is limited. I got really into cooking. Like proper cooking, waking up and prepping everything during the day ready for the evening. Making batches of my own sauces to use in other meals during the week etc. I also got myself an allotment. They’re incredibly cheap ~£25/year. It got me out of the house everyday and gave me something to nurture. It was great for my mental health and meant I’d come everyday with a bag full of my own grown fruit veg and herbs. Instead of going out to the pub and then a club or party every night I started to invite my friends round for dinner. And then drinks and weed smoking at mine. It meant I still had a social life but without spending as much money. I’d supply the location and food (which was mostly grown for free) and friends would bring drinks. I’d still go out from time to time, but I began to realise my relationships with friends was a lot better when having quality time in a house rather than faux drunken friendships whilst spending money.
I work at a theme park so my days off, while irregular, are usually in the middle of the week. If I have two days like back to back, my first day off I'll usually get up a little early to do any errands that I need to get done. Like grocery shopping, cleaning, whatever needs to be attended to. I usually get it all done by a little after noon. Once everything is all set, I just sit on my ass for the next few days, with the peace of mind that I literally have nothing to do. It feels great.
