Has the presence of people around you ever caused you to feel more lonely than you would if you were by yourself?

As if a lack of isolation just made you feel more isolated? Any thoughts as to what left you feeling that way?

Being misunderstood and constrained by social expectations is always way more isolating than just being alone.

@BlueVeins pressure to conform can make you feel like people have more interest in knowing more people like themselves than in knowing who you are as an individual

The only times I’ve felt truly lonely was when I felt like I couldn’t feel myself enjoying the moment like those around me, it always ends with me feeling zoned out and then they ask me if I’m bored or okay; idk maybe I enjoy my own company more or or their vibes don’t match mine, as the only group I truly enjoy is my school friends 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes. Usually everyone else knows each other well and I sort of get left to the side. Eventually I wonder why I am there and how I would much rather go home.
It is a a matter of contrast. Being the only individual in a crowd of couples and groups is a very lonely experience.

Yep, quite often. Mostly due to not feeling like I fit in with the people around me

@Effloresce In one of those areas where people's sensibilities do not align with your own? That can be both lonely and frustrating.

Not fitting in with the group is not a good feeling. I don't need to but in forced situations it's no fun.
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
like watching couples and asking yourself why can't you connect with others?
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Dancingxghost In general. Being a single in a crowd of couples would definitely feel like a downer though.
Yes,
It’s very much about relatability. I prefer not to make small talk

Yes my marriage was the loneliest I've ever been
Yes...occasionally even among my friends. I remember what it was like to be part of a young family and I miss it.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard A young family?
@ViciDraco With young children.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard Ah, okay. Young children do seem to bond and unite people.
