How to be more friendly?

I learned today that I have been unnecessarily suspicious of my coworker. It turns out, that I now believe he is a genuinely nice guy with no ulterior motive. I think it鈥檚 because for some reason Americans are very talkative for no purpose. I never understood why he keeps making conversation and is very eager to help. It turns out he鈥檚 like that with everyone and has no angle 馃槄

Some people like to talk , some don't, some likes to talk only when they want something.

Work places are like that.

Is this an Americanism I'm not aware of? I'd believe it, I've definitely had co-workers like that, and I'm always the quiet one.

Americans are known in Europe to be very talkative tourists. While in my home country, it鈥檚 considered weird to go up to random people and make small talk @chrisactually

@MorbidCynic That makes total sense now that you say it. It's funny, because in the Pacific Northwest US, they have what's called "the freeze": everyone's very polite and generally talkative, but they don't actually want to make friends.
