Yes. I met a guy through work and we had instant (not romantic) total rapport. He was vibrant & enthusiastic about everything. He introduced me to an active, exciting hobby. We had a couple of great fun experiences with that; then boom! He went raving ballistic with me over something completely trivial. I soon realized he was manic/depressive (my 'diagnosis'). I couldn't handle his frightening mood swings and I had to kill the friendship.

I think he must have had later treatment: Years afterward I learned he had moved to a small prosperous island, where he became a prominent member of the community, with local events named after him. I think back on the time when I first met him; how invigorating he was and what a fantastic friend he might have been. Maybe too good; on his good days he could have led me almost anywhere.

@Really do you regret ending the friendship? Since he turned his life around

@Hanginginthere I can be nostalgic for the rapport we had; spontaneously laughing together because we shared an unspoken, humorous thought about some passing thing we saw. It was like a sort of telepathy.

But I think the friendship would have become all-consuming, and he would have played the alpha male. No, I'm glad I walked away from it - and I doubt that he ever thought of me again, after a few days. Our paths didn't cross. When I knew him he was always short of money and I would lend him some till pay day; but later I know he came into a big windfall and became a much respected leader in community life. What I know about that I've read online. He's no longer alive, by the way. Would have been in his mid 80s by now.
