I'm so old I remember when carnivals still featured freak shows.

EDIT: I remember my parents got a "baby bonus" from the gov't of $8 per month for me in the 1950s !!

@lissah Ice-cream vans are still common, and the one that comes through my street seems to have more adult than child customers. Including me, occasionally.
