When is it ok to ghost someone you love if something comes up?

Is it too much to expect at least a quick text to say they have something else they must attend to ? I dont demand to be top priority but give me the courtesy of a quick heads up so I dont wait all evening for nothing then wake up in the
middle of the night feeling hurt and feeling pathetic for feeling hurt.

Instead of putting all power in their hands step up. Text them "I will assume our plans are canceled today unless you respond in 15 minutes"

Maybe they go "Aaahhh sorry I haven't looked at my phone there's been a shit ton of things at work. Of course our plan is still up."

Or they go "Sorry, I haven't had time to respond but yes, I have to cancel today"

Then you have the choice to go "Then you are responsible to plan a new time with me"

Or they don't say anything then you let 15 minutes go and then you let it go.
