Luck.
Educate yourself to the highest degree all you want.
Even educated folk are made unemployed from time to time.
Money comes and goes. And the more you have of it, the harder it is to hang on to. Since everybody else then wants a slice of it.
Brains ? Well, if your brain says one thing but a greater number say the opposite, what good does it do you ?
Looks ? Well, looks might give you opportunities but they're not all what you hope for.
But luck......If you're lucky, that gives you an advantage the rest of us can only hope for.
So would you say, for instance, the 100 richest people in the world are all lucky? Aren't some like Bill Gates there because of brains. Aren't some models there because of looks, aren't some there because of inherited wealth? Aren't there any unlucky people who still go far?

Well, Bill Gates is amazingly lucky !!!!
You're talking about a college computer geek who created something THE WHOLE WORLD WANTED !!!!
What other product or....'thing' can you say that about ?
Except maybe Sir Tim Berners-Lee !
Without whom Gates would be just another software creator probably !
Models are there for exactly the same reason !
How many 'wannabe's' never get as far as a magazine front cover or modelling in a high-end fashion show ??
@Picklebobble2: I think Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and such like would not call their success luck. Or would at least say that luck is when preparation meets opportunity. I would agree with you on the models part.

How do you account for Gates's success then ?
If there was no internet, he'd be creating software packages for business to business only.
Zuckerberg....Well, there's a guy who had a great idea and the foolishly let it go without thinking of the pay per view/ rental opportunities !! Hence all the garbage advertising.
I certainly agree that luck is a huge factor in life chances. But that's a variable (like looks) that we don't really have a hold over. I was just wondering of the things that are visible and measurable which has proved emperically to carry the greatest number of people to success. From what I can see money and looks appear to be beating brains, despite how worrying that is to a Darwin imperative of progress.
