An unsettling situation through no fault of my own
I went home for lunch because there was an office luncheon and I didn't want to be rude and make it seem like I didn't want to be a part of it. There was a package by my door, and it turned out to be for someone else in a different unit on a different floor.
I wasn't sure what to do but I finally went to that floor thinking I could just drop the package in front of the rightful door. Unfortunately, the door was open, so I thought about turning back but just then I saw someone come from the stairwell carrying a large bin of laundry. I literally froze for a second and I noticed I was spotted so I realized it was too late to turn back. I know I hesitated though because the guy looked at me like he recognized I didn't belong on that floor.
I held up the package and the guy smiled and as though he knew what had happed and I managed to say something like, "I think this is yours." He thanked me and I turned away. It was all pretty unsettling because some delivery person left a package that belonged to someone else with me. I was glad when I finally got back to work and relieved the luncheon or whatever it was, was over.
