Whenever I enter a store I do so with some amount of apprehension because I know I am going to be surrounded by greets and greeters
I walked into a store today, and an employee was standing at the front entrance and shouted, "Welcome in" to me. I hate that. He then said, "You look apprehensive. What can I help you find?" He literally said that to me. Surprisingly, I didn't know what to say and stood still and just pointed to some aisle and he smiled and said, "Enjoy your visit with us." I walked past him, barely able to collect my thoughts about what his purpose or intentions were. I really don't know why retailers think this kind of aggression is good for business.
I don't think I was apprehensive... I mean maybe I looked that way a little, but if I did, I think I had good reason to after being put through that kind of confrontation. Every time it happens, it makes me not want to ever go into a store again. But I really don't think I should be blocked by store employees trying to intimidate me. So, with courage I keep going despite my anticipation of being forced into that situation.
