A harrowing experience at the independent bookstore...

I went into a bookstore over lunch and was looking at a book I had heard about and a woman in the same aisle was staring at me which made me uncomfortable. I stood my ground and didn't move although I thought I was going to faint. After a while as I was skimming the book to decide if I wanted to buy it, she said, "Oh, that book is really good." I suddenly felt violated, but I remained calm and just smiled. She twirled her hair and asked me if I had ever read anything by that author. I didn't know what to say, so I just shook my head no. She smiled which seemed like she was mocking me. An employee came over and asked us both if we needed any help. She said she was looking for a gift and I walked away as they started talking.

It was a harrowing experience because I didn't know what to make of the whole encounter. I still don't.

If what you're saying is true, you might have just made a missed connection because it sounds like she was into you.

@PDXNative1986 Well, if she was, she should have just said so instead of putting me through that. But I don't know what her motives were.

@MarkPaul People are notoriously cowards especially about that sort of thing. I wouldn't expect them to be direct about it unless you seemed interested too.

@PDXNative1986 Well, now I am replaying everything that happened in my mind... if I missed some cues. I have been trying to be more aware of social cues.

Sounds like she was flirting with you and trying to make small talk to you too
