If I said it once, I've said it a million times... I don't like to be "greeted" when I enter a store and be coerced into getting into a conversation.

I feel like I get singled out by retail employees who think they are doing something epic by greeting me at the door the moment I walk in, smile at me, welcome me in, and want to chat with me. I am all for being social and being friendly, but I'm not going into a store for chit-chat. And I never know what to say so the whole encounter ends up becoming awkward. It's all so unnecessary.

Yes I know what you mean by it too and they are only trying to be friendly and make you smile and feel good about yourself too and small talk is fine too with the store greeter like saying hi how are you doing too or are you keeping very busy too simple things bc I know I used to be a cashier for grocery stores and gas convenient liquor store too so I know that too and I'm a friendly person too to make you feel better too and laugh too by smiling or saying something funny makes people laugh

I shop at thrift stores often and it is unusual for them to even acknowledge the existence of customers.

The best thing at other retailers is to not make eye contact, maybe just a quick "hello" and march on with a purpose.

Or if you want to torture yourself, ask them to tell you their life story.

@DeWayfarer Yeah, companies seem to be getting unreasonably aggressive with their sales tactics and other bull.

I would rather be left alone. But I like the store to have enough staff to help me if I need it.

Try currys,in the UK.Its bloody an achievement to find someone who will take your money so you can leave.Truth...

Expect even more of that. This is a dog eat dog economy.

The rich places want to assess your worth and either cater to you or get you out. While the poorer places are suspicious of everyone.

@MarkPaul and Trump is complaining about people like us.

I can't spend a dime extra.

@DeWayfarer Well, I have money to spend... but not if I am being forced into social situations that I haven't chosen for myself.
@DeWayfarer man that is some fine deduction of Customer service. I never thought like that
