As a small child what was the most simple, innocent lesson you had to learn the hard way?

TL;DR At the bottom.

So this took place when I was like 7 years old in the 1st grade. My favorite color was blue. But I had this male best friend who I was absolutely crazy for, for some reason. I was practically gay for him. Not even quite sure why because looking back he wasn't even special in any way.

But either way, his favorite color was green. And since I wanted to be like him in every way, I also changed my favorite color to green, or at least tried to.

At first "changing" my favorite color to green felt unnatural, as I liked blue more. After about a year though, green being my favorite color instead of blue turned into a genuine thing. I felt so proud of myself...

Only for my friend to change his favorite color to blue... which was the color I liked in the FIRST place before changing it just to please him... 🤦‍♂🤦🤦‍♀🤦‍♂🤦🤦‍♀🤦‍♂🤦🤦‍♀🤦‍♂🤦🤦‍♀

At this point I had put WAAAAAAY too much effort in changing my favorite color to green, so I was NOT gonna go through that entire process again to change my favorite color once more, especially not to my previous favorite color! 😩

Either way, the lesson here was: "NEVER change aspects of yourself just to please someone else!"

Funny enough, to this very day green is still my favorite color, and blue is still my second favorite color... it hasn't changed since! 😅

TL;DR So basically my favorite color was blue. But my best friend's favorite color was green. I spent an entire year changing my favorite color to green, till it eventually became genuine, only for my friend to change his favorite color... to blue... the color I liked in the first place... 🤦 Lesson here: "NEVER change aspects of yourself just to please someone else!"

You faked it, til you made it so.

@Iwillwait Never thought of using those exact words to describe that specific situation, but yeah! "Fake it till you make it" is a perfect way to describe it!

Though in this context "fake it till you make it" was not a good thing, lol! 😂

Usually when people say that they usually mean like fake having confidence till one day you have confidence for real. Or fake being not lazy till one day you stop being lazy for real.

But in this type of case, changing an aspect of yourself to please someone else...NOT a good thing, lmfao.

@EzraIsShy76028 So.. what's your favourite colour?
EzraIsShy76028 · 22-25
@Iwillwait I'm assuming you read only the TL;DR, right? I wouldn't blame you as the post was pretty long. But I did answer it in the post. My favorite color is still green, surprisingly or not, and blue is still my second favorite color, lol.

My favorite color basically hasn't changed a bit since I was 8 years old in 2nd grade, lol. Before age 8 it was blue. From age 8 onwards my favorite color turned into green, and blue became second favorite. And it hasn't changed since. :P

@EzraIsShy76028 But you did state you were Gay toward another student who's favourite colour is green, and you changed yours from Blue to Green. No?
EzraIsShy76028 · 22-25
@Iwillwait Um yeah, that's basically 100% what happened. Blue was my initial favorite color, and I spent a year changing my favorite color from blue to green. Then after that year, he changed his favorite color to blue. And at that point I was like: "Fuck this shit. I spent a year changing my favorite color to green only for him to change his favorite color to my old favorite color? I'm sticking to green for life now!" Lol.

And keep in mind, since I was like 7-8 years old, that one year basically felt like FOREVER to me. At 7-8 years old a year was practically a quarter of my life, lol. When you're that young 1 year feels like 10 years. So to me, essentially, I had spent 10 years changing my favorite color from blue to green, only for my friend to pull that shit. 💀

@EzraIsShy76028 how 'bout Purple instead?
EzraIsShy76028 · 22-25
@Iwillwait Hmm not a bad question, lol. Surprisingly or not I never liked purple that much even though in theory it's similar to blue and green, as they're the 3 "cool colors" as opposed to the 3 "warm colors" in red, yellow, and orange.

Purple always felt to me like an inferior blue for some reason. And at times blue and purple were somewhat hard to decipher due to colors like "indigo" existing, even being considered a color of the rainbow with the "ROY G BIV" acronym to describe the colors of the rainbow, the I in BIV standing for indigo.

My top 5 colors for me today would be um...the first 2 remain consistent, though the other 3 may change, but from most favorite to least favorite, the top 5 are: green, blue, black, white, and red. So purple doesn't even break the top 5, lol. Though it probably would make the top 10 at least if I kept going.

@EzraIsShy76028 Mine are Pink, Blue, Green, Purple & Black.
EzraIsShy76028 · 22-25
@Iwillwait Hmm, not bad, though then again I think all colors are beautiful in their own way, lol. Even "boring" ones people tend to dislike like brown and/or beige.

As for yours, we have matches in blue, green, and black, yes...that's a 3/5 match, or 60%, lol.

Though I think pink and purple are nice colors as well. Not my immediate favorites, but they're nice. I probably would prefer purple over pink, lol. Though certain things look really good in pink and wouldn't look good in any other color.
